You may want to try a pair of gently used shoes or find a pair on clearance until you know for sure your child is going to stick with the sport. Most children outgrow their shoes each season and you have to buy new ones every year anyway. When it comes to choosing a wrestling shoe, they are basically all the same other than the color and brand. Wrestling shoes provide flexibility and comfort and are made with a rubber sole to help grip the mat.
One thing to consider is that some tournaments are requiring laces to be covered, which can simply be done by wrapping with tape, but most of the new shoes come with covered laces so that is not an issue. When it comes to size, purchasing a shoe that is a half size bigger than your child’s normal shoe size should work just fine.
