Top Ten Wrestling Moves

Here are the top ten wrestling moves to learn, both offensive and defensive moves with links to instructions and or video on how to execute each move. You only need to learn a handful of moves, and learn them very well to be a great wrestler and win matches!

1.  Take Down – You need a good take down move that you are comfortable with, learn a couple of different take downs. The most popular are the single leg and the double leg take down.

2. Half Nelson – The half nelson is a basic but essential wrestling move. Watch the videos below to learn the correct way to execute a half nelson as well as how to defend a half nelson.

3. Cradle – Basic wrestling move that is very versatile. You can use the cradle from nearly any position. Get this move down and you’ll soon be getting lots of pins!

4. Peterson Roll – A little more technical than some, but it’s a great bottom move to learn and if done correctly, is very effective.

5. Granby Roll – A little easier than the Peterson Roll.

6. Stand Up Escape – The Stand Up is an incredibly simple move and probably the most common escape used by wrestlers.

7. Arm Bar – The Arm Bar is a bit trickier move, but with practice an arm bar will usually result in a pin as they are hard to break.

9. Cow Catcher / Cement Mixer – There are many different names for this move! Quick and easy to learn.

10. Headlock

There are a few wrestling moves you can do from a front headlock, the cement mixer is one that will be demonstrated in the video below. It will take some practice to learn, but if you can learn how to correctly execute this move, it works!
